What is Mandala Meditation?

Mandalas, meaning “circles” in Sanskrit, are sacred symbols that are used for meditation, prayer, healing and art therapy for both adults and children. They generally have one identifiable centre point from which an array of symbols, shapes and forms emanate. Mandalas are more than just an easy and fun way to draw something pretty though, they are also a form of guided meditation that can promote peace and balance in your life.

Circles are a powerful symbol found everywhere. The Earth moves in a circle around the sun, the moon orbits the circular earth. In our lives we experience the cycles and circles of love, friendships, family. The circle of life and death. We see them in halos, prayer wheels, and other religious symbols, architecture, and nature have been used to facilitate meditation in the Indian and Tibetan religions.

In many spiritual traditions, the mandala is considered a symbol for wholeness and is used as a focal point for meditation and introspection. – When you move deeply into the process of creating a mandala and enter into the sacred circle, you awaken to the energetic essence of your true self…your luminous self, and open yourself up to profound healing.

How can Mandala meditation be used to heal?

As you focus your full attention on coloring your way around the mandala, the mind slows down and the mind chatter fades as you become calmer. Mandalas are entering medicine as a healing tool.
